Maria Montessori
The Montessori Method is an approach to learning based on the child development theories of Italian educator Maria Montessori (1870–1952). Primarily applied during the preschool and elementary school years, the method highlights the child’s self-directed activity and the teacher’s observations. Maria Montessori stressed the significance of adapting the learning environment to the needs and development to the specific level of each child. It is the school’s responsibility to fit the needs of students rather than force students to fit the needs of the school. Maria Montessori understood that kids come to an understanding in different ways and at different paces.
